PC's are
becoming ever more complex, in terms of
both hardware and software. Although utility
suites often come with diagnostic software,
few provide sufficient facilities for
really getting under the bonnet.
Eurosoft's Pc-Check has been around for
more than 12 years and over that time
it has been updated to incorporate the
changes seen in all aspects of PC hardware.
The tool comes supplied on a single floppy
disk. You can use this to boot a PC or
the software can be copied to a hard disk.
Most users are likely to opt for the bootable
option because Pc-Check does not run under
Windows or any sort of memory manager.
Pc-Check will run on PCs with 286 processors
and higher. Running from its own disk,
the utility is completely independent
of any operating system that may be running
on the PC. It provides around 500 diagnostic
checks, which should allow even the most
obscure hardware problem to be sorted
out. During booting, you will see a graphical
splash screen while the software performs
some basic checks. Following this, a blue
textual menu screen appears. This provides
access to all the main diagnostic functions.
The system
information option gives way to a variety
of tests such as IRQ information, interrupt
vectors and PCI, IDE and I/O port information.
The Advanced option offers a variety of
services for the processor, memory, motherboard,
ports, modem, graphics card, CD-ROM/DVD,
disks and other ATAPI devices, keyboard,
mouse, joystick and audio devices. Up
to 4Gb of memory and up to 2mb of Cache
are supported. The tool also provides
SCSI utilities, immediate and deferred
burn-in testing and the ability to perform
a low-level format.
Pc-Check
is an essential tool for PC hardware Professionals
